What is Injection Molding?

Injection Molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts in large volume. It is most typically used in mass-production processes where the same part is being created thousands or even millions of times in succession. During the process, manufacturers melt plastic resin and inject the liquefied resin under pressure into molds. When the plastic cools, it is ejected from the mold as a seamless plastic piece. Injection molding can create plastic parts of varying size and complexity, which makes it suitable for diverse applications in a wide variety of industries.

Insert Injection Molding

Insert injection molding is the process of molding or forming plastic parts around other, non-plastic parts, or inserts. The inserted component is most commonly a simple object, such as a thread or rod, but in some cases, inserts can be as complex as a battery or motor.
Moreover, Insert Molding combines metal and plastics, or multiple combinations of materials and components into a single unit. The process makes use of engineering plastics for improved wear resistance, tensile strength and weight reduction as well as using metallic materials for strength and conductivity.

Overmolding

Plastic injection overmolding is an injection molding process that one material (commonly a rubber-like plastic called TPE) is molded onto a second material (typically a rigid plastic) by using heat and pressure along with liquid silicone. If properly selected, the TPE overmolding design will form a strong bond with the plastic that is maintained in the end-use environment. The use of primers or adhesives is no longer required to achieve an optimum bond between the two materials.
